Illinois Governor’s Mansion

Situated at 410 E. Jackson St, Springfield, IL 62701 the Illinois Governor’s Mansion is a beautiful Victorian-era home that is a must see for any traveler to Springfield. Due to re-open to the public on July 14 2018 after a massive 3-year long renovation, this mansion is sure to impress anyone who steps foot inside.

Added to the National Historic Register of Historic Places in 1976, the house to this day serves as the official residence of Illinois’ First Family (currently Bruce Rauner), a museum for visitors, and a venue for a multitude of local events. It has also served as host to a variety of US statesmen and presidents over the years. Be sure to stop by the mansion, and sign up for a tour while you’re there. After all the years and money spend during it’s renovation, the tour is sure to impress!

Henson Robinson Zoo

Located at 100 E. Lake Shore Dr. Springfield, IL 62712, Springfield’s Henson Robinson Zoo is a nice little zoo, appropriate for visitors of all ages, but is especially geared towards the education and entertainment of children. It houses over 90 species of exotic animals and animals that are native to Illinois as well. With a gift shop, and petting area at your disposal, Henson Robinson Zoo is bound to provide you and your little ones with a few solid hours of educational entertainment, and will give you a new appreciation of wildlife thanks to the zoo’s knowledgeable and friendly staff, so be sure to drop by and have a look around. Oh! And be sure to visit ‘monkey island’ while you’re there! They can get awfully funny!
