There are a myriad of wonderful dining establishments in Springfield IL. We know for a fact, because we actually just left the city on our way to our next destination on our family road trip! We were in Springfield for a few days, and during the course of those few days, while we explored the many Lincoln-era historical landmarks of the city, we had to eat sometime! Follow along with me as I list our absolute favorite few places to stuff your face in the Land of Lincoln!
Cozy Dog Drive-In
Cozy Dog Drive-In situated on Historic Route 66 at 2935 S 6th St in Springfield is somewhat of a cross between fast food, and a Springfield cultural/historical treasure. The original building it was in (next door) has been torn down and the “new” building was built in the early 2000’s where Cozy Dog now resides. Once inside the cute diner, you can of course try out their famous corn dogs (Cozy Dogs) but the menu also offers dining guests typical diner food options like hamburgers, BBQ sandwiches, bacon and egg sandwiches and more. Cozy Dog Drive-In has been part of the Springfield community since 1949, so if you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by for some tasty treats!
American Harvest Eatery
American Harvest Eatery of Springfield is tucked away in a strip mall on Springfield’s newer west-side area at the corner of S Koke Mill Rd and West Iles. American Harvest is unique to Springfield, and a great find as a “foodie” for sure due to their reliance on only locally harvested foods from vegetables to meats. The menu is always changing at American Harvest to reflect what’s in season in the area, and the cooks are constantly creating innovative dishes using only the freshest quality produce. I decided to try the salmon with cauliflower, along with a splash of locally made wines, which were AWESOME! Check out American Harvest if your stomach is growling next time you’re in Springfield!
